How Catalogs are Created
When you create a shop, the platform automatically builds a curated product catalog for you. This saves time and ensures your shop launches with a complete set of eligible, in-stock products.
To streamline setup:
-
The system automatically curates products with color variants that match your shop’s selected colors, ensuring visual consistency across the entire storefront.
-
Any designs you upload are automatically made available on every item in your catalog, so customers can easily choose the exact combination of product and design they want without additional setup.
You can also choose alternative catalog options — including mixed and fully curated catalogs — depending on how much control you want.
Catalog Creation Options
The platform supports four catalog creation methods:
-
Automatic 1–2–3 Catalog (default)
-
Blank Catalog (manual curation)
-
Mixed Catalog (automatic catalog + featured products)
-
Featured-Only Catalog (curate only selected products)
Each option is described below.
The 1–2–3 Automatic Catalog Creation Process
When using the standard shop creation flow, the platform generates a complete, production-ready catalog using your selected shop colors and the available product library.
The system includes products based on:
-
Variant color compatibility with your shop’s color selections
-
Product eligibility
-
Inventory status
-
Accurate and current product data
This produces a clean, fully workable catalog without requiring manual setup.
Starting With a Blank Catalog (Manual Curation)
If you prefer full control, you can choose to start with a blank catalog by avoiding shop color selections.
This option is ideal when you want to curate:
-
A limited, handpicked set of products
-
A very niche or theme-specific collection
-
A simplified product lineup for a client

Mixed Catalogs (Automatic Catalog + Featured Products)
Mixed catalogs allow you to combine the speed of the automatic 1–2–3 catalog with additional handpicked items you want to feature.
This option is best when you want:
-
A full, ready-to-sell catalog plus
-
A short list of featured products highlighted for the client
-
To add seasonal or campaign-specific products to a standard shop
-
To elevate key items without removing the rest of the catalog
How it works:
-
Create your shop using the normal automated process
-
Use product curation tools to add featured products from the library
-
Apply designs automatically (already available across the entire catalog)
-
Adjust visibility, pricing, and markup for featured items if needed
This hybrid approach offers speed + control.
Featured-Only Catalogs (Curated Catalog With Only Selected Items)
If you want a shop to focus exclusively on high-value or high-intent products, you can create a Featured-Only Catalog.
This option is best for:
-
VIP programs
-
Small curated stores
-
Event or campaign shops
-
Fundraisers
-
Programs where you want to limit ordering decisions
How it works:
-
Start with a blank catalog by avoiding shop color selections
-
Add only the curated products you want displayed
-
Designs still automatically map to all selected items
-
Hide or remove any product at any time
This gives you a tightly controlled, minimal assortment.
How Products Are Added to Catalogs
For Automatically Generated Catalogs
The system includes products based on:
-
Variant availability based on shop color selections
-
Inventory status
All decoration and production settings—such as print sizing, placement, and method routing—are preconfigured.
For Blank Catalogs
Creators or Administrators manually select products from the broader product library. For a detailed tutorial on the process, click here.
Ongoing Catalog Updates
Automated catalogs update whenever:
-
New products are added to the supported library
-
Products become unavailable or discontinued
-
Variant or data changes occur
-
Pricing changes go live
Manual catalogs also receive updates, but only for the specific products you have added.
How Designs Are Applied
Regardless of catalog type:
-
Every uploaded design becomes available on every product within the catalog
-
No manual design mapping is required
-
Product/design combinations are generated automatically
This ensures a consistent customer experience across all catalog types.
Role Capabilities: Administrators vs. Creators
Both Shop Administrators and Shop Creators can manage almost all aspects of catalog behavior within specific shops:
-
Add designs
-
Create Featured Products
-
Adjust markup
-
Hide or show products
-
Curate which products appear in their shop
-
Launch new shops using the 1–2–3 creation process or a blank catalog
However, there is one key difference:
Only Shop Administrators can control whether certain products are globally unavailable across the entire directory.
This includes restricting product types or categories from being used in any shop under the directory.
Creators can curate their own shops, but they cannot influence global product availability.
